Psychology 101: Why do girls prefer flowers over toasters?
Earlier on we went on a simple survey and discovered that, when asked on a date girls would prefer guys bring them flowers, when given a choice of the latter or a toaster. This is something which I considered odd, as for one toaster obviously has higher economic value, eg a toaster would cost $ 200, while a flower would either cost $ 20 or free ( if you plucked it from the park on the way over). Yet you don't see guys getting as much appreciation, when they go asking someone on a date and say " hey I brought you this toaster" , in comparison to "hey I brought you this flower". The response would be different. The toaster could earn you a horrified starre or even a slap, while the flower would earn you perhaps... a hug, if not an immediate approval. From a rational view point this makes absolutely no sense, as it takes far more effort to get a toaster than a flower (you cant pluck toasters from the ground), second it is more useful (please... try toasting me that bread with that flower!..can't? haha!). Yet this is not the case. Studies from my respondent...with over an ASTONISHING sample of over 3 x10^0 individuals (Hey we made the effort : p) seems to show that there's is an attachment of emotional symbolism over the flower, where as dictated in conventional media it is a symbol of care, love and kindness. It has become the object of choice by many to give during occasions, such as dates, hospital visit and mourning. This created a binding image of the flower being an appropriate object that is suited for those occasion, while a toaster was never depicted by the media in that manner (although it is again more useful..showing up in a funeral with a toaster causes problems). This preference of flower on dates, stem from doctrine attained through continual practice, rather than rational thinking. Hence this maybe one of the plausible explanation on the preferential difference. However at the opposing end of the spectrum, when given a choice of a flower and a piece of jewellery, girls pick the jewellery... weird bunch arent they. Why can't they choose to be irrational then?
